Ted Gaines is a state senator in California and the Republican candidate for insurance commissioner in November 2014. He serves as the chair of the Senate Republican Caucus, as well as vice chair of the Senate Insurance Committee. Before his election to the Senate in 2010, Ted served in the state assembly, where he was a member of the rules committee.
He began his public service in local government as a member of the city of Roseville’s planning commission from 1997 to 1999. He was elected to the Placer County board of supervisors in 2000 and reelected in 2004.
For the past 30 years, Ted has run a family insurance business, working with individuals and small businesses as they try to navigate the complicated and often confusing insurance marketplace.
A fifth-generation Californian, Ted’s’ family came west during the Gold Rush, leaving everything behind for the promise of a new land full of hope and possibility. Ted believes that wasteful spending, high taxes and burdensome regulations have made job creation and economic growth more difficult but still believes that California is a land of opportunity and optimism.
Ted is a graduate of Lewis & Clark College. He and his wife, Assemblywoman Beth Gaines, live in Northern California with their six children.
