Paul Carroll, Chief Executive Officer & Editor-in-Chief
Paul is the co-author of The New Killer Apps: How Large Companies Can Out-Innovate Start-Ups and Billion Dollar Lessons: What You Can Learn From the Most Inexcusable Business Failures of the Last 25 Years and the author of Big Blues: The Unmaking of IBM, a major best-seller published in 1993. Paul spent 17 years at the Wall Street Journal as an editor and reporter. The paper nominated him twice for Pulitzer Prizes. In 1996, he founded Context, a thought-leadership magazine on the strategic importance of information technology that was a finalist for the National Magazine Award for General Excellence. He is a co-founder of the Devil’s Advocate Group consulting firm.
Wayne Allen, Chief Operating Officer
As an attorney, Wayne has advised entrepreneurs and investors on entity, transactional design and operational issues for more than 17 years. Wayne earned his juris doctor from Baylor Law School in 1984 and his master of law in taxation at University of San Diego Law School in 1988. He earned his undergraduate degree in finance and economics from Baylor University in 1981. He also holds a California real estate broker’s license.
Paul Winston, Chief Revenue Officer
Paul Winston brings more than 25 years of experience at Crain Communications Inc., where he successfully managed the digital transformation within the publishing industry and led initiatives to respond to the evolving information needs of Business Insurance, a global media brand serving the risk management, employee benefits and commercial insurance industry. Most recently, he was Associate Publisher and Online General Manager of Business Insurance, developing editorial and custom content solutions in digital, print, events and research. Prior to that, he served as Editor and Editorial Director for more than a decade.
Scott Gillis, Acting Chief Financial Officer
Scott is a business-transformation architect, financial expert and change-management leader. Most recently, he was CFO of AIG Retirement Services, where he grew assets under management to $240 billion. Previously, he was CFO and a board member of SunAmerica, which grew 30% annually for 15 years and was the best-performing NYSE stock between 1990 and 1998. He is on the board of Liquid Metal Technologies. He is also a member of the ITL advisory board.
Joe Estes, Chief Technology Officer
Joe Estes has worked with startups, enterprises and government agencies for more than 13 years, to develop successful and lasting software products. He has been at the forefront of mobile app development — leading the work at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, then, at iViu, developing an indoor, micro-granular location service that is used by some of the largest retailers in the world. Joe co-founded Goalability, whose app is used all over the world to achieve goals by motivating social networks.
