ALPHABET DIRECTOR LOREN NICKEL JOINS ITL ADVISORY BOARD

MENLO PARK, CA — MAY 3, 2016 — Insurance Thought Leadership (ITL), a digital publishing platform that promotes thought leadership in insurance and risk management, today announced that Loren Nickel, Director of Business Risk & Insurance at Alphabet Inc., has joined the ITL Advisory Board.

The addition of Mr. Nickel to the Advisory Board will help guide ITL as it strives to meet the needs of risk managers, technology companies and innovators as part of ITL’s mission to drive thought leadership and innovation within the insurance industry. Alphabet is the parent company of Google, among other businesses.

Google is a partner with ITL on its Shaping the Future of Insurance event series, an invitation-only symposium for insurance industry CEOs and key regulators to hear world-class ideas on technology and innovation and meet insurtech entrepreneurs who seek to transform the industry.

“Loren’s actuarial science background, coupled with his capital and unique risk modeling experience, allows him to interpret Google’s (Alphabet’s) vast data gathering and its impact on unique and emerging risks of the company and its partnerships,” said Jeff Pettegrew, Chief Imagination Officer of ITL.

Mr. Nickel leads the Business Risk and Insurance Department at Alphabet in Mountain View, Calif. Prior to joining Google in 2015, he was a regional director for Aon Corp., leading the Northwest Region of Aon’s Actuarial and Analytics practice. He also has served as an underwriting director and actuary for Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co.

Mr. Nickel is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and a Charterholder of the CFA Institute. He earned a bachelor of science degree in statistics with an actuarial concentration from the University of California at Santa Barbara.

He is currently the President of the Casualty Actuaries of the Bay Area and is on the advisory board for the UC Santa Barbara actuarial program.
